Training and courses

The purpose of this one-week Advanced Course is to equip existing users of Multidimensional Poverty Indices (MPIs) or other Alkire-Foster-based measures with additional analytical tools and approaches to deepen their understanding of multidimensional poverty.

The annual OPHI Summer School is aimed at those who are working on, or actively interested in gaining skills in multidimensional poverty measurement, particularly professional staff of national offices of statistics and government ministries that deal with poverty reduction, professionals from international development institutions, academics, and doctoral students. 

OPHI Executive Education trains senior policymakers and leaders from all sectors in how to use Multidimensional Poverty Indices (MPIs) and other Alkire-Foster-based measures to reduce poverty.

UNDP and OPHI are pleased to offer a free self-paced Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on Designing a Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) in English, French, Spanish, Russian, and Arabic (thanks to our partners, ESCWA). 

This open access portal provides a brief introduction to multidimensional poverty measurement using the Alkire-Foster method through suggest readings, videos and a series of guiding questions.

OPHI is a Research Centre within the Oxford Department of International Development (ODID) at the University of Oxford. OPHI offers a module as part of the MPhil in Development Studies provided by the Department.
