The Policy and Outreach team at OPHI works with governments and development partners around the world to build capacity in developing and implementing national Multidimensional Poverty Indices - national MPIs - through bespoke trainings, technical assistance, and guidance with communication strategies and policy engagement.
The most used measure of multidimensional poverty globally
As of 2024, there are more than 40 countries across the world with official national MPIs. National MPIs are multidimensional poverty measures that use the AF method. Each national MPI in use around the world is built using indicators, weights and cutoffs that are tailored to its local context and definitions of poverty. Primarily, national MPIs are created to guide efficient and effective policies in poverty reduction by providing detailed information on the breadth and depth of poverty across a population. This information complements existing monetary poverty measures.
