Thailand MPI
MPI originally introduced: 2019
Latest MPI results: Thailand MPI 2022/23
The Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) in Thailand published a report on multidimensional poverty in 2022/23 using data from Household Socio-Economic Surveys (SES) 2021.
Previous results
The National MPI was first published in 2019 in a National MPI report and was based on data from Household Socio-Economic Surveys (SES) 2017 conducted by the National Statistical Office (NSO). Since its launch, the National MPI has been used as empirical evidence to push forward policies in dimensions with high contributions to MPI, such as pension reform and the expansion of the free internet services programme.
National MPI data were also incorporated into the annually published Poverty and Inequality Situation of Thailand Report by the NESDC with the intention to update the MPI data every two years (consistent with data availability).
In 2021, NESDC published an update of the National MPI based on SES 2019 data.

Child MPI
The first MPI published by NESDC in Thailand was the Child MPI making Thailand one of the first countries in the world to develop a child focused MPI. The Child MPI uses data from the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) 2015/16, and is built from four dimensions (education, child welfare, living standards, and health) and ten indicators, based on data availability and national priorities.

Thailand MPI structure: dimensions and indicators
Thailand National MPI Poverty Cut-Off: A person is considered poor if they are deprived in 26% or more of the 12 weighted indicators.
Global MPI
The annual global MPI produced by the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative in partnership with the Human Development Report Office of the United Nations Development Programme is an internationally comparable index of acute multidimensional poverty. OPHI publishes Country Briefings summarising poverty statistics of the global MPI for each country.
