Regional Workshop on Multidimensional Poverty in Cuba
On September 29 and 30, 2016, more than 30 national and international institutions representatives met in Havana, Cuba, to participate in the First Regional Workshop on the Multidimensional Poverty Index´s Methodology. This event was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investment (MINCEX in Spanish), National Bureau for Statistics and Information (ONEI in Spanish), and the United Nations Development Programme in Cuba, in partnership with Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI), and financial support from Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation in Cuba.
Seniors officials and technicians from Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Mexico, and Dominican Republic joined OPHI representatives Sabina Alkire and John Hammock at this event.
The main objective of this event was to present the MPI methodology and share countries' experiences working on multidimensional poverty measures. It was also an opportunity to analyze the relationship between multidimensional poverty and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Cuba is part of the Multidimensional Poverty Peer Network (MPPN). This meeting provided an important insight to the Cuban institutions both in methodology and practical uses.
