Exploring Multidimensional Poverty of Children across IsDB Member Countries
The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group and OPHI have partnered to publish a new series of briefs exploring multidimensional poverty across IsDB member countries.
This publication was jointly prepared by the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), the Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development (ISFD) and OPHI. This Brief uses global MPI 2022 results to shed light on child poverty in 41 IsDB countries. Children are disproportionately affected by multidimensional poverty across IsDB Member Countries. There are more poor children than poor adults. Indeed almost 40% of all children in IsDB Member Countries are poor. These numbers call for action that concentrates on children to ensure the generation of tomorrow does not grow up in poverty.
The Brief first provides an overview of multidimensional child poverty levels and trends, as well as how children are poor – invaluable information for bringing about positive change in IsDB Member Countries. It then presents case studies of progress from Indonesia, Togo, Bangladesh, and Nigeria. This briefing seeks to provide key insights and impetus for appropriate policy action to end child poverty and enhance poverty-related interventions by IsDB Member Countries and multilateral institutions including the IsDB.
