Biography

Juliana is a Research Officer and has been working at OPHI since 2016. She is part of the outreach team, supporting local partners within the African and South-East Asian regions in the development of national Multidimensional Poverty Indices (MPIs) and group-specific linked MPIs. She also contributes annually to the review of the report and the calculations of the Global MPI, particularly for non-DHS and non-MICS countries. Her current research focuses on how experiencing multiple overlapping non-monetary deprivations affects the effectiveness of nutrition and education-focused interventions for children in Guatemala, developed with Elena Villar and in collaboration with the FUNDAP Foundation in Guatemala.

Juliana holds a PhD in Economics from the University Paris Nanterre in France, for which she was awarded the 2022 Doctoral Prize from the UNESCO Chair in World Food Systems at the Institut Agro Montpellier (France). She also holds a MSc in Applied Economics from the same University, where she worked as a teaching assistant for five years on Macroeconomics and Microeconomics courses for undergraduate studies on Economics. She taught MPhil courses on Impact Evaluation of Public Policies and Development Economics at the Institute of Latin American Studies of the Sorbonne University in France, supervising MPhil Theses on impact evaluation of social programmes within the Latin American region.
