The Star - Poorer women more likely to experience abuse

The 2021 Global Multidimensional Poverty Index found that, globally, women and girls living in poverty are at a higher risk of experiencing intimate partner violence. Women and girls often become trapped within a cycle of poverty due to a lack of schooling and other factors that can make them unable to contribute financially to their households.

Women from poor families were most likely to have not completed at least six years of schooling while boys from those families were most likely to have completed schooling up to the same period.
