Does economic growth contribute to the reduction of multidimensional poverty? This is the main question addressed in this paper written by Maria Emma Santos, Carlos Dabus and Fernando Delbianco. Results from the study suggest that while economic growth reduces multidimensional poverty, it is well below a one to one relationship. Furthermore, they find that economic growth has a much bigger impact on income poverty than multidimensional poverty. The results highlight the need for countries to grow in order to reduce poverty, but they simultaneously suggest the limited power of economic growth per se to achieve grand reductions in poverty.
