A decades-long decline in poverty is reversing due to factors ranging from COVID-19 to Russia's war in Ukraine. Finding solutions starts with agreeing how to effectively measure poverty in all its forms.
Researchers are advocating a rethink of how poverty is measured. One problem with using an income-based measure is that it excludes people who are earning more than $2.15 a day but are still unable to fulfil their basic human needs.
