Launch of the 2023 Global Multidimensional Poverty Index

The 2023 global Multidimensional Poverty Index will launch on 11 July at an official Side Event hosted by the Permanent Mission of Fiji on the margins of the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development.

The event will take place at 18:30–19:30 ET in Conference Room 3 of the UN Headquarters. The event will also be webcast live via UN WebTV.

This year's event will launch the report and findings of the 2023 update of the global Multidimensional Poverty Index, the internationally comparable index of acute multidimensional poverty for over 100 countries in developing regions. Panellists will discuss how these data can be shared and used alongside other data sources to reduce poverty in all its forms.

The 2023 global MPI report Unstacking global poverty: Data for high-impact action is jointly produced by the United Nations Development Programme Human Development Report Office and the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative at the University of Oxford.

Note on public registration

Public registration closes at noon (Eastern Time/New York) on Wednesday 5 July 2023. 

On the day, guests must bring photo ID (passport) and arrive in front of UNHQ Visitor’s Entrance between 46th Street and 1st Avenue by 6pm to receive a special event pass to enter the venue in time for the start of the event.
