APRM-OPHI Seminar: 'Towards a resilient approach in tackling poverty in Africa'
The Africa Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) is one of the African Union's specialised organs dedicated to promoting governance in Africa by encouraging Member States to adopt policies and practices that can lead to political stability, strong and inclusive economic growth, sustainable development and accelerated sub-regional and continental integration. The APRM facilitates good governance by promoting adherence to norms of conduct emphasised in the African Charter on Democracy, Elections, and Governance (ACDEG) and other codes and standards.
This APRM-OPHI seminar entitled 'Towards a resilient approach in tackling poverty in Africa' was held to:
Raise awareness and advocacy on Agenda 2063 and its associated aspirations including those pertinent to poverty alleviation amongst Africans in Diaspora and scholars.
Assess the state of poverty measurement in Africa and how COVID-19 negatively influenced national efforts to reduce poverty.
Present OPHI measurement as a policy-oriented collaboration with African countries.
- Discuss relevance of APRM mandate to OPHI engagement in Africa and higlight potential collaboration proposals.
