Dr Rakesh Mishra
Biography
Rakesh is a Senior Research Officer and leads the global Multidimensional Poverty Index project at OPHI. Rakesh holds a PhD in Population Studies from Jawaharlal Nehru University, India. His research encompasses a range of applied topics critical to sustainable development, including the monitoring of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), gender issues in social protection systems, vulnerability assessments, and the dynamics affecting urban poverty. He has also investigated maternal and child health metrics and demographic issues, along with challenges related to data quality in these areas. He has extensive experience in DHS and MICS datasets since his doctorate. Before joining OPHI, he worked on various national and international projects with development partners like UNICEF, UNFPA, Population Council, and the National Institute of Urban Affairs. His work encompassed multiple sectors, leveraging empirical research to facilitate policy formulation and program implementation aimed at sustainable development outcomes.
